There are various reasons why you may not be able to connect your MetriQ client to the database on a remote server. However, there are a number of steps to isolate what the problem might be.
- Make sure that the database manager is running correctly on the server. Using the MetriQ applet from within the control panel, use the Test button to make sure that you have the correct server name and the correct database file location.
- Make sure that your client points to the named database server and that the database file name is the same as the one used when you tested your connection on the server. Again, use the MetriQ applet from within the control panel to setup these values.
- If you are still having problems with connection, open a DOS console. At the C: prompt, type the word ping followed by the name of the named database server. E.g. ping monkey. An unsuccessful ping will result in an ‘unknown host’ error.
- Assuming you are able to ping the database server, the check to make is to ensure that you TCP/IP protocol installed on the client machine. To do this, go to the control panel, and open Network Connections. Right click on your Local Area Connection and select properties. Make sure that you have TCP/IP Internet protocol checked. Uncheck any other unused or unwanted protocols the client may be configured to use.
- Make sure that all firewalls on your computer are configured to allow MetriQ to communicate with the firebird database server.
