In general this either means you have not correctly configured the database connection string (see MetriQ's applet in the control panel) or, if a brand new install on a stand alone machine, that you have a Firewall blocking MetriQ communicating with its Database Manager, Firebird.
To check if this is the case, simply open your control panel, turn off the Firewall setting and test again. If MetriQ now works, this should confirm that you need to allow MetriQ to pass through the Firewall. For more information on configuring a Firewall, please consult MetriQ's online help. Don't forget to turn your firewall back on when you have isolated the problem.
