Work Choices & New Time-keeping Requirements
Reforms to the Work Choices legislation introduced by the Australian Government earlier this year mean that employers are now required to keep time records for employees earning a base salary of less than $55,000. The purpose of this reform is to show that staff are not exceeding 38 hours plus "reasonable" overtime in the average working week, or being paid below minimum wage.
This new law come into effect on September 27, and of course most businesses are not even part way ready. It should be noted that
Employers who fail to meet the Work Choices requirements can be fined as much as $2,750 per offence as a company.
How can MetriQ help?
First, its important to realize that enforced legislation means that employers are going to loose money if they use timesheets, with all the inherent problems associated with this outdated form of time collection. It is also important to realize that employers will also be faced with re-training their staff to use whatever software they eventually purchase in order to fulfill their legal obligations. This can place a hefty burden on any employer wishing to keep abreast of these work-related issues.
The good news of course is that there are always options, and MetriQ is a software package specifically designed to collect time data with the least possible amount of intrusion to employees. In addition, MetriQ does not have the extra time collection costs that typical timesheet and stopwatch programs will always have (see our cost calculator).
So, if you are new to time capture, you need to keep a record of your employee time, and to monitor their overtime, then MetriQ is a clear choice for you and your business. Feel free to download a copy of the software or to contact us for more information and a free no obligations demonstration.
