MetriQ's Database and Maintenance with MetriQ Time Tracking Software

As with all valuable data, care should be taken to ensure that backups are done on a regular basis. Should your disk crash or some other such disaster happen to what you believe to be an otherwise good computer, having no access to a backup copy of your data may cost you more than you realise.

MetriQ will periodically remind you when it's time to update your database.

It is also worth noting that the health of your database will also benefit from a regular backup and restore (constant use of a database leaves spaces where data has been removed. Backup and restore will remove these, compacting your database to an optimal space (see Control Applet)

MetriQ comes with its own routines for backing up and restoring the MetriQ database, the place where all of your important data is stored. This is an integral part of using MetriQ and the following steps should be followed to help you manage your data resource effectively.

WARNING: Doing a disk backup on database that is still connected and in use MAY result in a corruption of that database file. To ensure this is never the case:

1
Quit all copies of MetriQ prior to doing a disk backup.
2
Use the backup facility supplied with MetriQ to make a copy of your database (see details below).

For more information of MetriQ's Database Utility tools see the MetriQ Control Applet.

Note: Before any changes to the database or its settings can be made, you will need to disconnect from the database by pressing the Connection button on the main window, and selecting Disconnect from the drop down menu.
