Timing Icons Overview with MetriQ Time Tracking SoftwareWhen you add an icon to a User Folder, you are in effect adding a link to an associated software application or file stored on disk. This timing icon will have the same icon as the application/file you have just added, with a similar set of properties linking that icon to a launch able application/file. However, when you double click the timing icon, not only does the underlying application open, but also a special timing agent is activated behind the scenes. This timing agent records how much time you spend on the application and logs this time data into the MetriQ database. Note: Timing ONLY occurs for applications/files opened within MetriQ, and never for applications/files opened outside of MetriQ (see Privacy). When you have more than one application or rile open within MetriQ, the timing agents make a decision regarding which application is currently in use, and timing control is passed to the active agent while other agents representing applications that are open but not in use, become idle. In this way MetriQ only records the time for one application/files open at a time. Even though you may swap frequently between two different applications/files, MetriQ's timing agents will also swap timing agents accordingly, recoding the time and displaying it on each timing icon. Should you leave your desk or be interrupted, MetriQ will time-out and go into Time Away mode after a set period of time. You may of course be reading a page of text, so the Time Away threshold time is programmable and can be set or deactivated by the the User Folders Profile (see also User Folder, User Folder Properties and Folder Profiles). Alternatively, you could make the icon persistent or make it immune to time out (see also Timing Icons). Next: Timing Icons
