In MetriQ there are two basic ways of timing. There's Preemptive timing, whereby you, as a user, select which User Folder you are going to work on, and then begin timing by clicking an icon to open the software needed for the current task. The second way of timing in MetriQ is Permissive, in which users time a task before they stipulate just who (i.e. which client's activity) that time is to be billed against.
For example, on a busy day the telephone rings. On pickup, you don't know who the caller is, but you want to start timing immediately. Then, when you've finished your call, you may wish to write some notes, and finally allocate the time you've just collected to a particular Client's activity, relevant to who you were speaking with on the phone. For this scenario, MetriQ has a semi-automatic timing feature called iTime.
To start iTime, first press the iTime button on the main MetriQ button bar and the iTime window will open, showing your elapsed time either in hms or units (see also Options). Use the Notes section to add any notes you require. When you have finished, pressing the Next button will take you to the next part of the iTime wizard screen, where you will be able to allocate your time to a new or existing Timed Event.
Starting iTime from your System Tray:
Because iTime represents a quick movement from automated pre-emptive timing into manual permissive timing, and icon to open iTime is also added to your System Tray when MetriQ start. Look for the system tray icon, and simply click to open. Alternatively you can also right click this icon to bring up different related options, such as Disbursements and Review Card.
Note: as you select different User Folders, the available Timed Event timing icons in the drop down box will change, depending on the content of Timing Icons available to the chosen User Folder.
Who gets this timing data?:
When the activity you are timing has finished (i.e. you've ended your telephone conversation), you must still tell MetriQ how you want your timing data logged. For this you will need to select a User Folder (see also Folders), and choose a named Timed Event (see also Timed Events).
You can either select from Existing Timed Events, or if you wish, enter a New Timed Event.
Existing Timed Events: These are Timed Events that are already on the selected User Folder. Choosing an existing Timed Event will mean that your new Timing Data and Notes will be 'Appended' to the timing data and notes of the existing Timed Event chosen. So if you've been talking on the phone for 10 minutes, and you already have a Telephone Timed Event on your selected User Folder, then MetriQ will add the new 10 minutes to this timed event.
New Timed Event: If after selecting your User Folder you cannot find a relevant Timed Event, then you can opt to create a new Timed Event from the New Timed Event drop down box. If the Timed Event is not even in the current list, then you can also create a new Timed Event using the button. The new Timed Event name will be added to the MetriQ database for use another time. You can also delete existing Timed Events using the button. When you have finished selecting a suitable User Folder and Timed Event, press the Finish button to allow MetriQ to add a new Icon along with the accumulated time and Notes to the selected User Folder.
Note: You may close the iTime window without saving your time data. MetriQ will prompt you with a reminder to save your data, but you can override this request.
Remember to close your iTime Window:
When using iTime, it's important to remember to close the iTime window when you're done using it. For this reason, the iTime task bar button will flash until the window is closed.
